Gervasio Herreros Street


Gervasio was born in Torrelavega in 1875. He studied low and he worked as a lawyer. He was the last director of ``El Heraldo Montañes´´wich was a local liberal newspaper. He moved to Madrid and then he moved to Mexico where he died on 17,December in 1947.

Pablo Garnica Street


Pablo Garnica Echevarría was born 28 th December 1876 and he died 12 th December 1959.

He was a laywer and Spanish politician, he also was minister of grace and justice during the reign of Alfonso Xlll. He always had a strong relationship with Cantabria and he was member of the liberal party, and he became member of the parlament representing Santander in all the elections from 1901 to 1943. In 1943 he was a attorney in the courts designed by the primer minister.

Menéndez Pelayo Avenue


Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo born in Santander (Cantabria) November 3, 1856 and died in Santander the May 19, 1912 was a polygraph, political, Spanish scholar, devoted mainly to the history of ideas, criticism and history of Spanish literature and Latin American and Hispanic philology in general, but also culture poetry, translation and philosophy.

Manuel Salces Street


In the year 1861 was born in Suano near Reinosa, Manuel Salces. His parents are two farmers, who have two other children more and Manuel can only go to the village school in winter and part of the spring because he has to help in the field. Hermilio Alcalde del Rio was an historian who was born in Villamediana (Palencia) the 13th January of 1866, and he died in Torrelavega the 2nd June of 1947. He moved to Torrelavega with his widow mother shortly after birth, where he did his Bachiller studies at Saint José’s School.

Julián Ceballos Street


Julian ceballos was born in Torrelavega on Febrary 17, 1816. He followed the military career, participating in numerous actions of war, coming to be known with “La Gran Cruz Laureada” of San Fernando.

He was a painter known for his landscapes interior scenes. He was the youngest of 10 siblings.

Francisco Modinos Street


Francisco Modinos Páez was born in Santander in 1906 and from his childhood, he was interested in drawing and literature. At the age of seventeen he goes to Madrid, joins the Special School Of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving, and the Academy of Fine Arts San Fernando, where he  studies until 1929. Next year, there is granted to him a scholarship created by the Marqueses de Valdecilla and he moved to Paris, where he will remain six years.
