Gervasio Herreros Street

Gervasio was born in Torrelavega in 1875. He studied low and he worked as a lawyer. He was the last director of ``El Heraldo Montañes´´wich was a local liberal newspaper. He moved to Madrid and then he moved to Mexico where he died on 17,December in 1947.

Pablo Garnica Street

Pablo Garnica Echevarría was born 28 th December 1876 and he died 12 th December 1959.

He was a laywer and Spanish politician, he also was minister of grace and justice during the reign of Alfonso Xlll. He always had a strong relationship with Cantabria and he was member of the liberal party, and he became member of the parlament representing Santander in all the elections from 1901 to 1943. In 1943 he was a attorney in the courts designed by the primer minister.

Menéndez Pelayo Avenue

Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo born in Santander (Cantabria) November 3, 1856 and died in Santander the May 19, 1912 was a polygraph, political, Spanish scholar, devoted mainly to the history of ideas, criticism and history of Spanish literature and Latin American and Hispanic philology in general, but also culture poetry, translation and philosophy.

Manuel Salces Street

In the year 1861 was born in Suano near Reinosa, Manuel Salces. His parents are two farmers, who have two other children more and Manuel can only go to the village school in winter and part of the spring because he has to help in the field. Salces is a child who is shy, reserved, very creative and skillful to the carpentry and the stonework. And with its work also works economically in the home.

Carlos Pondal Street

Hermilio Alcalde del Rio was an historian who was born in Villamediana (Palencia) the 13th January of 1866, and he died in Torrelavega the 2nd June of 1947. He moved to Torrelavega with his widow mother shortly after birth, where he did his Bachiller studies at Saint José’s School. 

Julián Ceballos Street

Julian ceballos was born in Torrelavega on Febrary 17, 1816. He followed the military career, participating in numerous actions of war, coming to be known with “La Gran Cruz Laureada” of San Fernando.

Casimiro Sainz Street

He was a painter known for his landscapes interior scenes. He was the youngest of 10 siblings.  At 11 months of birth his mother died of cholera.  At thirteen, he was sent to Madrid to work in the grocery business of his brother. José María González Trevilla was a cantabrian politician, he hold the mayoralty of Santander and he was a senator for three Spanish provinces for little less than ten years.

Ceferino Calderón Street

Ceferino Calderón was born in Rudagüera, Cantabria, the 23rd of August of 1843 and he died in Torrelavega, Cantabria, the 3rd of August of 1928 at the age of 84.

Damian Street

The Leper Priest, the Hero of Molokai. Born in Tremelo, Belgium, on January 3, 1840, he joined the Sacred Hearts Fathers in 1860. He was bom Joseph and received the name Damien in religious life. In 1864, he was sent to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he Was ordained. For the next nine years he worked in missions on the big island, Hawaii.

Marqués de Santillana street

The Marquess of Santillana, or also known as Íñigo López de Mendoza, was born in Carrión de los Condes (Palencia) on 19 August 1398, and he died in Guadalajara on 25 March 1458. He was a Spanish military man and poet of the Prerenaissance.

Fernández Vallejo Street

Born in Tanos in 18 of July of 1842, Joaquin Fernández Vallejo was mayor of Torrelavega.

Argumosa Street

Diego Manuel de Argumosa and Obregón was born in Cantabria Villapresente, Spain July 7 de1792 and died in Torrelavega on 23 April 1865 was a Spanish doctor who began healing the wounded who was leaving the war independentistay little by little, became pos> ts more important of surgery in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Madrid. It is also recognized because it was a great innovator in the world of surgery, the was one of which prompted the use of anesthesia.

Demetrio Herreros Street

Mr. Luciano Demetrio Herrero Proigas, is son of Luciano Demetrio Herrero Gonzalez and Rosa Proigas. His father was from Cantabria, and his mother was from Cuba.

Luis Hauzeur square

He was an engineer in Reocin´s mine. His brother was Julio Hauzeur. The two brothers were from Belgium and they were very important in Cantabria.

Francisco Modinos Street

Francisco Modinos Páez was born in Santander in 1906 and from his childhood, he was interested in drawing and literature. At the age of seventeen he goes to Madrid, joins the Special School Of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving, and the Academy of Fine Arts San Fernando, where he  studies until 1929. Next year, there is granted to him a scholarship created by the Marqueses de Valdecilla and he moved to Paris, where he will remain six years.
