Marcelino is
the younger brother of writer Enrique Menendez Pelayo.
Marcelino
Menéndez Pelayo is famous because it was the main scholar and refundidor,
during the nineteenth century, history and literary Spanish and Hispanic
literature.
The works of
Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo (wrote several books among them): Spanish Science
(1876) claim of the existence of a scientific tradition in Spain. Horace in
Spain (1887) is a translation of Spanish literature Horacio. History of the
heterodox Spanish (1880 - 1882) is a book that examines the Christian tradition
through the history of Spain.
Marcelino The
highlights are: He was elected to the Spanish Royal Academy (1880), Member of
Parliament (1884-1892), proposed for the Nobel Prize in 1905, member of the
Royal Academy of History in 1882, with the speech The story considered poetry.
This institution was librarian since 1892 and director since 1910. He entered
the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences in 1889 and at the Royal
Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in 1892. Finally, from 1898 until his
death in 1912, he was director of the National Library of Spain, succeeding in
office Manuel Tamayo y Baus.
This man is a
street dedicated in Torrelavega (Cantabria). Changed the name of Biscay by
Avenida Avenida Menendez Pelayo council meeting dated 25.05.1912.
The mayor was
inaugurated Florencio Ceruti Street Castaneda. Changed the name of the street
by the Menéndez Pelayo died 05/19/1912
